Title : Preliminary Study On Bank Erosion Problem At Kilim Karst Geoforest Park, Langkawi
Sypnosis : The concept of geological resources management and conservation has actively been promoted by the Geological Heritage Group of Malaysia or Kumpulan Warisan Geologi Malaysia (KWGM) since 1996. Geological resources in the past have been regarded as materials that can contribute to the wealth of the nation which are destructive in nature. Proper planning of the geological resources could generate higher economic return not only to the quarry operators, miners and other related industries but also the local community and the public such as enhancing geotourism potentials of the geological resources. In order to achieve this goal, KWGM have identified hundreds of interesting geological sites in the country to be promoted either as geosites, geotopes, geological monument or geoparks. In Langkawi, more than 90 geosites has been identified as high heritage value for conservation which the archipelago have been successfully accepted by UNESCO as a global geopark on 1st June 2007. There are three major geoheritage conservation areas in Langkawi namely; Machinchang Cambrian, Kilim Karst and Dayang Bunting Marble Geoforest Parks.
